DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) is the official diploma of French language awarded by the French Ministry of National Education. It is conducted to test the French proficiency of non-native speakers. This exam is administered by the International Centre for French Studies on behalf of French Ministry of Education.
DELF is a widely recognized certification diploma in about 165 countries and is valid for lifetime.
Assessment criteria at each level (A1/A2 & B1/B2) comprises four tests evaluating overall language skills:

DELF A2 recognizes the linguistic competence of the student. At this level, the student can express simple, everyday information and common feelings. It also involves learning about high-grade grammar and language rules. This level assesses the elementary knowledge of the language.

Level B1
PROFICIENCY: LOW-INTERMEDIATE TO INTERMEDIATE
At this level, students learn how to express themselves in familiar situations and deal with non-routine situations that aren’t too demanding. Students are introduced to sophisticated academic and professional writing at this level. This level expects the student to become independent.
DELF B1 is required to acquire the French nationality and also to validate some other diplomas.

Level B2
PROFICIENCY: UPPER INTERMEDIATE
At this level, the student will be able to satisfy most goals and discuss a wide range of topics and issues. Academic and professional materials may cause some trouble, but common situations are easily handled. The student attains fluency and spontaneity in regular interactions. The DELF B2 exam is demanding and requires a lot of preparation and practice. This level is necessary to follow studies in French higher education.
